F-Word Veal Recipe

Gordon Ramsay's Veal Escalope recipe was a bit unclear this week and the Channel Four website confirms that. He was fleetingly shown to fry off the capers and pine nuts with the meat (a real cheffy touch) but C4's written recipe didn't elaborate. So here's the original sequence. We'll be making it tonight. With turkey of course. 

TetraPak Recycling

Less than 10% of UK councils can recycle Tetra Pak cartons due to their combination of paper, aluminium and plastic. Last year the company invested a measly £300,000 into development of recycling resources despite manufacturing two billion of the landfillers. Which? Magazine reports this month that they can be sent back to the manufacturer. The catch is it costs 36p to send each carton which is then shipped to Sweden for recycling. Do we sense someone missing the point here? Corporate video about it. 

What Generation Gap?

Benylin's Children's Chesty Coughs Syrup is formulated for kids from 1 - 12 years old. Intriguingly the label states that "If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your doctor before taking". In our view such kids should be worrying about contraception and not their tickly throats. How young ARE mothers these days? Either the pharmacists know some statistics that we don't, else they should to go back to med school and give more pertinent advice on the label.

 

TV Teasers

Have you ever seen a product on the telly and not been able to buy it in the shops? Take these Birds Eye Soya Beans for instance. Are they in our local (reasonably large sized) Sainsbury? No chance. Also, on their website Birds Eye claims a commitment to "minimise the impact on the environment". Interesting as the beans in question are air-freighted frozen from Taiwan and China. When they finally get here we'll let you know if it's worth the air miles. 

Rip Off Britain

The UK is OFFICIALLY more expensive to shop in than Europe right down to the shopping trolley. In Europe the deposit on a trolley is one Euro (about 65p). In the UK it's one POUND. That's 50% higher. What a con. And we know you're all saying "So what? You get it back afterwards". But think of the interest. 

En-Faucet

We're finding too many restaurants in Central London that don't have hot running water in the washrooms. Are we wrong to worry that if WE can't wash our hands properly after using the bog, what are the COOKS doing? Should this be against the law. What do YOU reckon? Let us know. 

M&S - Eat Well???

Avoid Marks and Spencer's 'Haddock and Ciabatta Bake'. It tastes vile, has been created with little thought and we suspect has misleading nutritional information. This twisted take on a Fish Pie has pieces of ciabatta tossed on top which go rock hard on one side and soggy on the other. The salt content renders it virtually inedible and we are having it analysed to see if it exceeds the quoted 1% sodium content. Note to M&S: Try a bit of quality control. 

It Disney Make Sense

In that Cinderella cartoon the Fairy Godmother sings: "Salagadoola, mechicka boola, bibbidi-bobbidi-boo". But when she puts them together all she's got is "bibbidi-bobbidi-boo". What happened to the Salaga wotsit and the Mechika stuff? She's probably creaming it off for other spells. Watch out for her, that's all we're saying. 

Hot Politics

We're thinking of starting a fanclub for our local councillor Suzanne Poole. As conservative councillor for the Gipsy Hill ward of Lambeth, she must be one of the freshest faces in politics at the moment.
